Veniard "Cellire" Varnish is a classic, nitrocellulose-based head cement used in fly tying to permanently seal the thread knots at the head of a fly and provide a hard, high-gloss finish.

Application & Handling
  • Function: It is designed to penetrate the thread wraps and lock the final whip finish knot in place, preventing the fly from unraveling.
  • Technique: Best applied using a bodkin (needle) rather than a brush, as this allows for precise "drop" placement without over-soaking the materials.
  • Drying: It dries quickly to the touch but requires time to fully cure into its signature rock-hard "glassy" shell
Maintenance (Thinning)
Because Cellire is a solvent-based lacquer, it will thicken in the bottle over time as the solvent evaporates.
  • Restoration: You must use a compatible thinner, such as Veniard Unitit Thinner or a cellulose thinner, to restore it to a flowable consistency.
  • Warning: Do not use water or alcohol-based thinners, as they will ruin the varnish or cause it to turn cloudy.
