CDC (Cul-De-Canard)

CDC, or cul de canard (French for "duck bottom"), is not a food or dish but rather the feathers found around a duck's preen gland. These feathers are naturally buoyant due to the oils produced by the gland and are a highly-prized material used for tying fishing flies.

What cul de canard feathers are used for

Fly tying: The feathers' natural water resistance and buoyancy make them ideal for creating dry flies that float on the water's surface.
Creating realistic flies: The soft, fluffy texture of the feathers gives flies a lifelike movement that attracts fish.
Nymphs and emergers: Tiers also use CDC feathers on subsurface flies, where the fibers trap air bubbles for a realistic effect.
