Veniard Short Cock Hackles

Veniard Short Cock Hackles

Veniard Short Cock Hackles are versatile, value-oriented packs of feathers used for tying both dry and wet flies, particularly effective for salmon and trout patterns. They offer a cost-effective alternative to purchasing a full neck.
Key Characteristics
  • Feather Type: These are neck hackles from a rooster, known for their stiff barbs that help flies maintain shape and buoyancy. They are ideal for creating tails, cheek patterns, and general hackles.
  • Packet Contents: The hackles are supplied in generous, economical packets, typically weighing 1 or 2 grams, containing a variety of sizes. This assortment allows for tying a range of smaller flies.
  • Dyeing Process:
    • 1 gram packs are dyed on pure white hackle, resulting in clear and vibrant colors.
    • 2 gram packs (available in select colors like black, natural red game, and fiery brown) are dyed on color-extracted hackle, which yields deeper, richer tones.
  • Use Cases: Due to their smaller size and stiff barbs, they are best suited for smaller flies. They are also widely used for creating beard hackles on nymphs and wet flies, and for palmering lure bodies.
  • Colors: They come in a wide range of natural and dyed colors, including popular options like Black, Fiery Brown, Golden Olive, Hot Orange, Kingfisher Blue, and Teal Blue.
